Getting to Malta
Malta lies virtually in the centre of the Mediterranean Sea, some 93kms south of the Italian island of Sicily. Yet Malta is just a few hours' flying time from most mainland European cities and has excellent intercontinental connections.
The national airline, Air Malta, operates flights to and from all the major airports in Europe, North Africa and the Middle East. Other legacy airlines and various low-cost carriers also operate regularly to and from Malta.

Airports & Airlines
All flights arrive and depart from Malta International Airport, 8km south of Valletta. The airport has good facilities, including ATMs and currency exchange, internet access, a tourist office (open daily), left luggage, and regular, inexpensive bus connections to Malta's major towns and to the Gozo ferry.
There is also an office of Malta Public Transport selling travel cards to facilitate transport on buses and ferries throughout Malta.
Our conference venue, the 5* Intercontinental Hotel, is a short taxi ride away from the airport.
Getting Around once on the Island!
The small size of the Maltese Islands makes getting around easy and hassle-free.
The public bus service on Malta and Gozo is a good way to get around as buses serve the major tourist areas, go practically everywhere and are inexpensive and efficient.
Renting a car is a good option if you want to get to the farther reaches of the island. All the road signs are in English and driving is on the left. Major international brands and local car hires are located on Malta and Gozo with daily rates of €16 - €28. International and national driving licenses are acceptable.
Renting scooters, motorbikes or bicycles is also an option, but be aware that bicycle lanes on major roads are rather limited.
The white taxi service can pick up passengers from anywhere, except bus-stops. Taxi services from the Malta International Airport and the Seaport Terminal to all localities in Malta are based on a fixed tariff. For more information on taxi rates click here.
A regular ferry service links Malta to Gozo, taking about 20 minutes each way.
There are also regular boat services between each island and Comino.
A water taxi service using traditional Maltese 'dghajsa' boats is also available in Grand Harbour.
